Battlefield series normally focuses more on multiplayer than single player. I would think that like all Battlefield series that have single player campaign, it is rather short and somewhat linear. Neither of which have a story relating to BF3. Only the two Bad Company games have a campaign mode. There is no split screen as console systems do not have the processing power to run it. Although most players would rather just have the game. Most companies include pre-ordering with bonus in-game content. My best bet for you is to just get the game whenever you feel like it. I bought Medal of Honor 7 months after its release and it only came in the limited edition packaging for regular price still with the battlefield 3 beta invitation inside. If i'm correct this should be pretty much the same thing that Medal of Honor did as well as Crysis 2 like you said. I'm not really accurate on this answer but i'll give it a shot.
